What is Better Start – Better Futures?
Better Start – Better Futures isn’t a delivery programme. There are no groups, sessions or services to sign up to here. Instead, BSBF exists to make sure everything we learned between 2015 and 2025, about pregnancy, birth and the earliest years of life, continues to shape decisions, services and investment across Bradford District.
Hosted by Activate Bradford District & Craven (ABDC), a collaboration between Community Action Bradford & District (CABAD), the Voluntary and Community Sector Alliance (VCSA) and Community Network (CNET), BSBF acts as an independent, trusted entity with community at its heart. It applies insight and evidence to drive early years action so that every baby, child and family in Bradford has the chance to thrive.
How we work
BSBF works through partnership rather than delivery. We bring parents, carers, practitioners, policymakers, academics and the voluntary and community sector together to keep early years evidence at the centre of decision-making, principally through the CoRE Partnership, the district’s evidence-based forum for the conception-to-reception period.
We also continue to support a number of projects that grew out of the Better Start Bradford programme, including Better Place, Baby Week, BiBBS and Talking Bradford. These sit alongside, not beneath, our wider system influence work; one part of the picture, not the whole of it.
Get involved
Whether you’re a parent, carer, practitioner or partner organisation, there are several ways to be part of Better Start – Better Futures. [See “Get Involved” below for the three strands.]

Our original site, betterstartbradford.org.uk, remains live and will stay available for two years. It holds the full story of the 2015–2025 programme: project information, evaluation findings and resources for families and the workforce.
